Saxophonist/composer Charles Lloyd, still at the forefront of his career, celebrates his 80th birthday live at the Lobero Theater on March 15, 2018, on the most familiar street in his hometown of Santa Barbara. The members of the band consisted mainly of young friends in their 30s, and the guests included the great Bucca T., who has never performed with the band before but is from the same hometown of Memphis, and Don Was, the president of Blue Note. The band also performs songs from their first Atlantic release, "Dream Weaver" from 1966, "Requiem" from the 1992 ECM album "Notes from Big Sur," a Mexican folk song from the 2010 album "Mirror" and the 2016 album "I Long To See You," a Mexican folk song from the "I Long To See You" album, and a Mexican folk song from the "I Long To See You" album. The wide repertoire of songs includes "La Llorona," a Mexican folk song that also appears on the 2010 album Mirror and the 2016 album I Long To See You, and "Part 5, Ruminations" from the 2017 album Passin' Thru, a song that could only be performed on his 80th birthday.
