Song of a Wandering Young Man" depicts the grief and despair of a young man with a broken heart. Songs for a Lamenting Child," which describes the feelings of a young man confronting the death of his child in a concise style and condensed expression. The "Five Romances on Verses by Rckert," originally published as "The Last Seven Songs," was later compiled from five songs by the same poet. Bernstein's recording of Mahler's three songs with orchestral accompaniment was made with the best possible collaborators: the famous baritone Hampson and the Vienna Philharmonic. Universal Music
