The minimalist label gives little away about this cask strength Penderyn, and judging by the extraordinary colour we initially guessed that this was fully matured, rather than finished, in a single Port Cask. However, the rather enticing producer's tasting notes proved otherwise.

Penderyn Vintage 2003 Cask PT9 Portwood Matured Single Cask Single Malt Welsh Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: A mixture of fresh fruits, apples and pears with sweet vanilla.
Palate: A smooth, sweet and creamy mouth feel with spice notes, together with warm sticky toffee pudding, tangy wood and malt.
Finish: More perfumed fruits, but malt the most persuasive flavour.
Distillery Information
The company was launched in 2000 as the Welsh Whisky Company. Whisky had been distilled in Wales for hundreds of years, but stopped in 1894. Penderyn became the first whisky to be manufactured in Wales for over a century when sales started in 2004. It remains the only whisky currently produced in Wales.
